Understanding and Celebrating Diverse Minds

I am a Registered Psychologist in Alberta and the founder and heart behind ACTivate Psychology. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Calgary. My professional experience spans assessment and counselling for children, adolescents, and adults with diverse abilities and complex needs across a variety of settings, including Alberta Health Services, Alberta Education, and community-based organizations.

As a lifelong Calgarian, I am deeply connected to this city, which my family and I are proud to call home. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy biking along the river with my family, cheering on my children at their extracurricular activities, and spending time together at local favourites like the Farmyard, Calgary Zoo, and Calaway Park. The mountains hold a special place in my heart, and I feel happiest at Lake Windermere.

I am also the proud parent of two remarkable children who are divergent thinkers and learners. Through my personal journey, I have experienced the worry and uncertainty that comes with watching a child face challenges. I understand the frustration and disappointment that can arise when seeking support within healthcare and education systems that are often overburdened and often unable to fully accommodate individual differences. I have felt the fear that these systems might inadvertently diminish my children’s spirits, and the concern that focusing on “disorders” rather than “differences” can foster feelings of shame or inadequacy.

I believe, wholeheartedly, that differences do not mean less. Differences don’t need to be “fixed,” but rather seen as qualities to be embraced and supported with compassion and understanding. Every brain is valuable and unique, no two are exactly alike. Just as each fingerprint is distinct, every brain has its own strengths, patterns, and ways of perceiving the world. I am committed to celebrating neurodiversity and recognizing the strengths and perspectives that every individual brings. As Temple Grandin wisely stated, “The world needs all kinds of minds.”

My mission is to empower individuals and families with the knowledge, emotional support, and resources they need to thrive. I believe that people do well if they can! Everyone strives for success and connection. Sometimes, we need guidance to better understand the obstacles in our path or barriers making our journey harder. . My goal is to help clients gain deeper insight into themselves or their children, while providing practical tools, resources, and the confidence to advocate for their needs. Together, we can foster resilience, self-understanding, and a sense of belonging.
